Big Changes in College Football
Here's a soundbite from my take on USC and UCLA announcing their move to the Big 10 Athletic conference by 2024. It's mainly a football move as that's where the money is for college sports, but it's really difficult to fathom given the traditional Rose Bowl game every January that pits a team from the Pacific West against the winner of the Midwest-based Big Ten conference. By the way, the "Big 10" hasn't really been a conference of ten for some time nor is it solely a midwestern conference with members on the east coast, i.e., Rutgers University and the University of Maryland. Still, it's just really odd to think about a "Big 10" conference that will not only include two universities from the west coast, but the two most historic, iconic programs that have been synonymous with west coast collegiate athletics - the USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins.
